Newsletter April 22, 2022 Hello, Happy Valley Families,
It is Spring! We are thankful for the rain, thankful for healthy students, and thankful that we get to go to school in such an amazing area!
As the end of the year progresses, there is much to share with you!
There are lots of volunteer opportunities coming up in the next few weeks. Please let us know if you are available to help!
This Sunday, April 24, is our field work day from 1:00-4:00. Every little bit helps, even if you can only come for a little while. We will be filling in the track with DG, weed eating the garden, and filling holes on the field.
Parent Club can use your help during the Open House, selling raffle tickets, apparel, Redwood Dinner tickets, pizza and salad, and supporting the Silent Auction of Classroom projects.
May 2-6 is Teacher Appreciation Week! Parent Club will be reaching out to you with details and a culminating luncheon on Friday. Please help us celebrate our teachers!
We will be moving our library to the writing center over the next few months. If you can volunteer your time to help us, please let Laamie Young know!
We have lots of fun activities planned for the end of the year. Besides writing celebrations and class plays, we also have a BMX assembly, a Wildlife Assembly, a Talent Show, and our PeaceBuilder Assemblies.
Monday, April 25, we will be practicing the protocol for a lockdown. Students will be in class, and we will announce there is an issue on the playground. (It will probably be some kind of wild animal activity.) The purpose of this lockdown is to help adults and children prepare for unforeseen circumstances. We will not be sending out emails to families at this time, but if there were an emergency you would immediately hear from the school with next steps.
For the next three weeks in the mornings, our 3rd-6th graders will be participating in the state test known as CAASPP. We are asking that students are quiet and respectful while transitioning between classes so as not to disrupt those testing. For students who are participating, we want to remind families to be sure your students are at school on time and have had a good breakfast. This information is important to inform our school how our students are doing, and gives us data that helps inform our teaching practices.
Our Board of Trustees has proclaimed that we will be honoring Harvey Milk Day by flying the rainbow flag on May 6. Happy Valley supports the rights, freedoms and equality of the LGBTQ+ community and seeks to ensure inclusiveness, safety and a sense of belonging for all students, teachers, staff and their families.
This week we honored our amazing support staff and teaching assistants. We could not do our jobs without them!
